Serene-Naturist Website

Serene-Naturist

http://serene-naturist.com/

This site is both a poor design and very amusing, almost to the point that I continue to look at it. There is so much going on in this site that it is very distracting. There is a good amount of animated gifs ranging from blooming peacocks and flying geese to dancing palm trees and swimming swans. Of course, who can miss the animated butterflies placed next to a picture of a nude women as they appear to fly from her butt. There are also a lot of pictures of nude people in various poses that were not on massage tables but rather in outdoor scenes and artistic poses that did not relate to the services of a massage therapist. One of my personal favorites was a comical picture of a baby shaving in the mirror on the personal grooming and shaving page. Additionally, there was no grid system to keep the pages consistent with one another. All the type and pictures were placed randomly all over the site. A fair amount of the pictures were distorted from the original proportions which made them awkward to view. This site is a must see as an example of poor design and also because it very funny to view.

Windows of New York Website

Windows of New York

This site exists for the sole purpose of displaying a variety of illustrated New York city windows. These illustrations are nicely executed and are created with an eye pleasing pallet of colors. The beauty and variety of windows show off a side of the city that is commonly seen but rarely noticed. Updated with a new window each week; this is a very unique site to visit.

Digital Hollywood Website

Digital Hollywood

I found this site to be very unappealing and lack luster. Everything on the home page seemed to be encapsulated into rectangular or square areas including the list of sponsors along the header and down the right side of the page. They appear to have a cut and paste look within the white boxes. Although I felt the big, blue, solid mass on the right hand side of the page was an unattractive navigation bar with thirty-three options, it did seem to navigate to all the necessary pages and help to keep information orderly. It appeared that some of the pages on the site had measurements that were inconsistent with other pages on the site. Also, some of the other pages on the site were designed with a completely different color scheme than the the home page. Between the inconsistency of color and format I found the site to lose cohesion between it's pages. I feel a site designed to promote and give information about conferences in the artistic and entertainment world would be a bit more appealing to the eye.

Bel50 Website

Bel50

This website offers a simple and appealing color scheme of orange, cream and dark warm grey. The sight opens with a nice slide show banner with a few illustrations and product sots. The navigation bar rests in the header along with the logo located just above the images in the slide show. The page is a scroll down and is fluid and easily navigated with the mouse or the navigation bar menu. The site hit all key elements including location, hours of operation, product menu, a history of the company and contact info. The products are displayed with attractive, mouth watering photos and have their own sub navigation menu bar for the many choices. The designer used a nice choice of fonts and subtle background textures to give the site appeal.

Captain Dash Website

Captain Dash

This site opens with the home page displaying a navigation bar and a really cool short animated video. The simple color scheme of black, white and grey give the site a clean look while accents of red and blue add congruency and flare to the pages. The navigation bar is large and located at the top of the pages along with a stylish logo which navigates to the home page. The navigation bar directs the viewer to four pages on the site. Each page is divided into several main content sections. The sections are well defined by incorporating a grid system, hierarchy in type size and attractive illustrations to separate sections of the main content. The site seems to cover all the basic information including product info and use. Each page footer contains links to contact info, terms and social media. This site has a clean, well organized look with attractive, eye catching illustrations.

The first detail I observed was the rainbow of colors used on this site. I found the lack of a simple color scheme to be too bright and a bit stressful on the eyes while trying to read the information on the site. Other than the color scheme, the site was fairly easy to navigate through. All of the pertinent information is available and easy to find. Although, I did not like the lack luster navigation bar's location on the bottom of every page. Other than the home page all of the other site pages were congruent with one another. Overall, I did not find this to be an attractive or well designed page.

Brooklyn Gin Website

Brooklyn Gin

http://www.brooklyngin.com

This site has a nice clean look starting with the logo design and arrangement of information on the pages to the black, white and warm grey color scheme. The navigation bar is simple starting with information about the company and how they operate. This page scrolls downward and is image dominant with subheadings and captions relating to the imagery. The images used are nice compositions that compliment the page and give an earthy and handcrafted feel to the product. The next tab on the navigation bar brings up a list of nine attractive looking product shots of cocktails in a three by three grid formation. Each of these buttons are interactive and navigate individually to a recipe for each cocktail. The third navigation bar tab bring the viewer to a page of links to articles published about the gin. This page uses repetition mimicking the grid system used on the cocktail page. The final tab navigates to a map with pins of the locations the gin is sold along with a list of the addresses. Each of the previously mentioned pages included a footer that has links to follow Brooklyn Gin on social media and also to subscribe to their newsletter. Overall, I found this site to be simple, clean, organized, informative, easily navigated and attractive. It is a nicely designed site to be inspired by. It actually makes me consider buying their gin.

Bear Flag Wine Website

Bear Flag Wine

At first glance I found the website to be appealing with it's chaotic, paint washed colors and sporadic illustrations scattered around the page. As I began to navigate the page, I quickly realized the lack of a solid color scheme mirrored a lack of organization. The small menu bar on the left hand side did not navigate to everything on the site. It navigated to a very small product selection, contact information page, information about the label artist and where you can find the wine. The site was uninformative as to the history of the company and lacked a mission statement. In further navigation of the side scrolling site I found scattered illustrations, some which were interactive and some which were not. It was time consuming trying out figure out what I could click on. Overall, I was not impressed with the site or it's lack of organization.
